Picture chart

Routines create predictability. Predictability gives them a sense of safety and control. When we moved to Texas, There were lot's of changes for the boys. Very exciting moment for all of us, but there were also many more emotions involved. My three year old got a new bed, in a new house and a new state. Whoah. In the eyes of a little one, it can certainly be a lot.

Changes can affect an infant/preschooler/child in different ways. It can disturb their sleep patterns, cause behavior challenges and potty regression amongst other things. I did charts with my older two boys, and decided to create a simple one for Santi (3) to help with predictability. Specifically to prepare him for night time, which was what we had been struggling with the most. Giving them responsibility gives them a sense of accomplishment, independence and safety. I felt like doing this was necessary for him. During summer our schedule has not been predictable which throws me off as well. on Instagram I got questions regarding his picture chart and thought it would be a great idea to share with you all through here. What you will need to create this chart? - Laminator

If you don't have a machine to laminate. You can use clear tape. Tape both sides. boom! DIY lamination ;)

Print: Chore icons

I do think a laminator machine is worth having! We laminated ours but the tape hack is a great solution if you do not want to laminate it.

How to use the chart? I used the same velcro circles to put it in his room, at his height.

  1. Explain what each little icon means. ( My little one took it literal, You will find us reading 3 books every night because of my choice of picture) Whoops!

  2. I put a sun and moon of each of their backgrounds. As we learned to use the picture chart, he would go to his room, "move" the breakfast icon and say " my picture chart says it's snack time!" Convenient right? My response would be: Let's look outside, is it sunny day? ( Noooo) So we are doing this chart instead. Consistency and patience is required the first few days.

3. He looks forward to start his bedtime routine, and does a great job cleaning his toys up to say "clean up, Check!".

4. It has helped us alot with predictability, and yeah, there days he wont move the sleep icon to "done" because " I don't want to sleep". I go through his chart again and explain we have already done all the things, now it is time to go to sleep. I hope you find this free printable useful and if you use it with your little one please share with me. xo.
